Socceroos looking for 8th win against Jordan

The Socceroos will be out to finish this stage of World Cup qualifying with an eighth win from eight games against Jordan today.

Graham Arnold’s side secured top spot in Group B last time out after defeating Nepal 3-0 and have shown good signs upon their return to action.

Jordan, meanwhile, drew 0-0 with Kuwait and could fail to progress to the next stage of qualifying if they lose to Australia and Kuwait beat Chinese Taipei in their final group game.

Australia claimed a narrow 1-0 win in November 2019 when these two sides last met with Jordan in desperate need of avoiding another loss.

These two nations have played each other six times over the past decade with both claiming three wins.

Both, Brad Smith and Apostolos Giannou, have been ruled out of this match through injury, while Mitchell Duke has been granted an early leave from camp to reunite with his family in the UK.

While the Socceroos have little to play for, Arnold will be looking to ensure his side don’t lose any momentum and may name a strong starting side.

Maty Ryan could return between the sticks, while Trent Sainsbury and Kenny Dougall will be pushing for more minutes, after not featuring against Nepal.

Up front, Adam Taggart is yet to play and could be handed a chance, while Chris Ikonomidis is also due a start having impressed recently as a substitute.

Possible Socceroos XI: Ryan; Good, Sainsbury, Tongyik, Grant; Dougall, Holland, McGree; Ikonomidis, Taggart, Borrello.
