John Van ‘t Schip favourite for the Greek National side

John Van ‘t Schip is set to become the next manager of the Greek national team, according to several reports in the media.

Last Saturday afternoon, various reliable sources in the Greek media stated that Van ‘t Schip, 55, will become the new head coach of the senior national team.

Angelos Anastasiadis, who has held the post since October 2018, has left after a troubled tenure which ended with two consecutive home defeats in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying to Italy and Armenia.
Gazzetta.gr published a brief interview with van ‘t Schip in which the Dutch Canadian coach didn’t deny having contract with the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO):

“I would like to make it clear that I have not struck an agreement with the federation. I don’t know what the Greek press are writing, but there is nothing to announce at the moment. I am in contact with the organisation, but at this stage I can’t say anything more.”

Born in Canada in a Dutch family, Van ‘t Schip enjoyed a successful playing career, winning the 1988 European Championship with the Netherlands alongside plenty of competitions with Ajax. He also made over 100 appearances for Genoa in Italy.
As a manager, Van ‘t Schip has been the head coach of Twente, Jong Ajax, Melbourne City, Guadalajara and PEC Zwolle. He has also served as an assistant coach with the Dutch national team and the Ajax seniors. Van ‘t Schip likes playing attacking football with intense pressing.
