Football Federation Australia (FFA) has t launched a video designed to encourage all Australians to #GetOnside with their country’s bid to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023.
The video features Matildas captain Sam Kerr who makes an impassioned plea to the nation to get behind the bid, explaining that everything the team have achieved so far has been building up to one moment, the opportunity to host a World Cup on home soil.
“This is it.” Kerr said. “Everything we’ve been working for. The early mornings, late nights and sacrifices have all led to this, a World Cup in Australia.”
“The Women’s World Cup to me is the pinnacle of our sport, and the pinnacle of my dreams too. It would mean everything to host a FIFA Women’s World Cup on home soil.”
The FIFA Women’s World Cup is the ultimate competition in women’s football and is held every four years. The most recent tournament in Canada in 2015, saw a total match attendance of 1.35 million and a global television audience of 764 million.
Records are expected to be broken when the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™ kicks off in just 17 days’ time, and FFA Chief Executive David Gallop AM said the time is right for Australia to host the tournament on home soil in 2023.“This is an opportunity we want the entire country to get onside for. Bringing the FIFA Women’s World Cup to Australia is our chance to welcome the world,” Gallop said.
