Family of American who died in Greece “saves” 8 people by donating his organs

11 September, 2019

The family of a 30-year old American citizen who died in Greece recently, decided to donate his organs, saving the lives of eight different people.

The unfortunate man was spending his summer holidays on Greece’s island of Tinos this year but he died after a serious traffic accident that took place on the island.

After his family learned the devastating news, they found the courage to decide to donate his organs.
Greece’s National Transplant Agency (EOM) was immediately informed, and the relevant procedures began in order to find the people who needed the organs the most.

The young American’s death offered hope and life to seven Greek citizens and a German national.
People in need from across the country received the organs of the deceased tourist, while his lungs traveled all the way to Germany, to offer a new chapter of life to a patient there.

In a statement, the President of EOM Dr. Karambinis noted that “once again, it’s clear that organ donation has no borders. Human solidarity and love for fellow human beings transcend borders and any other religious and social beliefs”.
