Η ισχαιμική καρδιοπάθεια είναι η κύρια αιτία θανάτου στην Αυστραλία, σύμφωνα με νέα στοιχεία της Στατιστικής Υπηρεσίας της Αυστραλίας.
11.636 άνθρωποι πέθαναν από καρδιακές παθήσεις μεταξύ Ιανουαρίου και Οκτωβρίου 2021. Ο αριθμός των θανάτων ήταν ελαφρώς υψηλότερος από τους μέσους όρους για τους μήνες Σεπτέμβριο και Οκτώβριο, αλλά τα ποσοστά θνησιμότητας παραμένουν κάτω από το μέσο όρο, σύμφωνα με την Στατιστική Υπηρεσία.
Η άνοια, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της νόσου Αλτσχάιμερ, είναι η δεύτερη κύρια αιτία θανάτου στην Αυστραλία, με 10.979 θανάτους κατά την ίδια περίοδο.
Πρόκειται για 13,6% υψηλότερο ποσοστό από τον μέσο όρο του 2015-19, με τον αριθμό αυτό να αυξάνεται σταθερά.
Σχεδόν 41.000 άνθρωποι πέθαναν από καρκίνο την ίδια περίοδο – που αντιστοιχεί σε αύξηση 6% σε σχέση με τον μέσο όρο του 2015-19.
Εν τω μεταξύ, 1.671 άνθρωποι πέθαναν λόγω του COVID-19 έως τις 31 Οκτωβρίου 2021.

Ischaemic heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia, according to new figures from the Australia Bureau of Statistics.
11,636 people died from heart disease between January and October 2021.
The number of deaths were slightly above historical averages in September and October but mortality rates remain below average, the ABS, said.
Dementia, including Alzheimer disease, is the second leading cause of death in Australia, with 10,979 deaths over that period.
This is 13.6 per cent higher than the 2015-19 average, with the number steadily increasing, the ABS said.
Almost 41,000 people died from cancer during the same period – up 6 per cent on the 2015-19 average.
Meanwhile, 1,671 people died due to COVID-19 up until 31 October 2021.

This projection is based on the estimated resident population at 30
June 2021 and assumes growth since then of:
- one birth every 1 minute and 45 seconds,
- one death every 3 minutes and 12 seconds,
- one person arriving to live in Australia every 4 minutes and 3 seconds,
- one Australian resident leaving Australia to live overseas every 1 minute and 50 seconds, leading to
- an overall total population decrease of one person every 23 minutes and 5 seconds.
